Classroom learning is one of the traditional systems of learning. Classroom learning needs a certain number of participants or students to be active listeners & participate in that learning environment. The students and teachers need to be physically present in the classroom. Classroom learning promotes an open exchange of ideas and face-to-face interaction between the students and the teachers. Classroom learning also promotes socialization among teachers and students via team projects, peer evaluation, and group discussions.
The entire educational system right from the time a student gets into academics is based on the Classroom learning method. From nursery, schools to senior schools, colleges, and universities – most of them are based on traditional learning space, which is in the classroom.

Classroom learning plays an important role to make the teaching-learning process successful. Some important approaches to the teaching-learning process are:

Cooperative learning: Encourage students of mixed abilities to work together by promoting small group or whole class activities. Through verbally expressing their ideas and responding to others the students will develop their self-confidence. Solving mathematical puzzles, conducting scientific experiments, and acting out short drama sketches are just a few examples of how cooperative learning can be incorporated into classroom lessons.

Behavior management: Implementing an effective behavior management strategy is crucial to gain students' respect and ensure students have an equal chance of reaching their full potential. Examples include fun and interactive reward charts for younger students, where individuals move up or down based on behavior with the top student receiving a prize at the end of the week. Telling the moral stories also helps the behavior management of the students.

Teaching style can be modified according to the student's issues: Teachers can modify their teaching style based on types of learners in their classroom i.e. classroom activities can help visual learners, interactions can help auditory learners, etc. Teachers can get a clear idea of whether students are following what has been taught or they require further explanation. At the same time, students can get their doubts clarified immediately before moving ahead in a topic.

Enhances critical thinking skills: It enhances students' critical thinking skills. Teaching in a classroom gives students the opportunity to engage in live discussions in which they are forced to use their critical thinking skills to formulate opinions or arguments.

Promotes a healthy relationship between teachers and students: Teachers who connect with their students create a safe environment where students can question, explore, and discover. Willingness to take risks can be limited by a fear of failure. A safe environment governed by principles that encourage growth and respect allows students the freedom to learn from their mistakes.

Albert Einstein said, “It is the supreme art of the teacher to awaken joy in creative expression and knowledge.” Teachers play an important role in the better outcomes of the teaching-learning process. Though there are no major challenges found with classroom learning. However, with the recent pandemic situation, some major challenges with the classroom method have been identified. They are:

  • In the event of a pandemic that is spread through social contact (direct and indirect), classrooms become a potential zone of risk.

  • Classrooms can become the breeding ground for unnecessary conversations, grapevines, politics, debates, which can be easily avoided with the help of technology in an online course. “Sticking to the point”.

  • While digital training restricts human interactions, it is the need of the hour to ensure the safekeeping of the health of our students as well as teachers.

In order to stay relevant, one needs to able to adapt to the situation and transform oneself accordingly. Therefore whatever maybe the situation ahead or for however long the uncertainty may last, we will always be prepared to face the challenges even if it is the mode of education. But it is unfailing truth that classroom learning is the best mode of learning.

I want to conclude by mentioning the massage of Swami Vivekananda on traditional learning, “My idea of Education is personal contact with the teacher- without the personal contact of teacher there would be no education.”
