The innovation distinguishes between leader and a follower”. -Steve Jobs
I have joined the fellowship because I want to be a change for society by incorporating my scientific knowledge in the development sector by working on the ground. I am obliged that I am an integral part of two pilot projects is LEEPS (Life and Entrepreneurship Program in secondary education) and PISA (Program for international students’ assessment).
My journey of Gandhi fellowship began on June 25, 2019. I reached the gate of Piramal School of Leadership and one thought which suddenly clicked on me was - "am I dreaming, or it is the reality?" The cheerful environment and friendly talks were making the moment alive. The very next morning we went for morning assembly where we were living our childhood by singing Balgeet and the inner child of every individual were enjoying the moment. The induction process was full of surprises and one of those was my selection into one of the Pilot programs of the Life and Entrepreneurship Skill Enhancement Program for Schools.
The projects and community interventions not only shaped me in the direction of being a social entrepreneur but also helped in understanding and realizing the value of social architecture.
Also, Community Immersion (CI) was one of the processes for which I was really excited and looking forward to during my fellowship. It not only made me value more about the essence of community but also gave me the hope to live the life irrespective of money, comfort zone and proper resources. I lived in a village with a family for whom I was complete stranger at first but in no time they accepted me as one of them. I lived with and liked them for one month where I participated in all the family rituals, household work and established a learning center for the local community with the help of the family members. I even organized a cleanliness campaign with my 100 senior secondary students of my village. The most exciting and memorable part of my CI was that I also celebrated my birthday during my CI which still remains one of the best birthday celebrations of my life.
We cannot be fortunate enough, as a team we fought this crisis together, made sure that we kept supporting our stakeholders, especially our vulnerable communities. I cannot thank enough each and every member of Gandhi Fellowship and the community with and for whom I was working for making these 2 years - a journey of my lifetime.
To conclude I would say that Gandhi Fellowship is not a journey of being a leader instead it is a journey of finding inner you and making yourself a responsible change maker, which starts from bringing the change from inside.
