“The more that you read, the more things you will know, the more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.”

Aspiring to become an IAS officer, Avika Soni is a grade 9th student from Rajasthan. Her most preferred way of learning is through games and by writing and reading. She believes that reading concepts multiple times and then writing what you have understood can help her memorize them. She also likes dancing, painting and playing badminton.

What is your favorite subject and what do you like the most about that subject?

I like English grammar the most as there are so many words one can explore in this language. I have also participated in events like English essay competition, speech competition etc. I had written my essay on Gandhiji. I have even completed a course from British Council on Spoken English.

How has Gurushala helped you in your journey as a student?

I was introduced to Gurushala by Gurushala team members, Rahila and Priyanka ma’am. My favourite section of Gurushala is the Content Library where I get to learn new crafts and art. The unique thing about these videos is that there are ideas about creating things even from waste material.

I have regularly participated in events that are organised by the Gurushala team. I recall participating in a fancy dress competition, art and craft competition, mask making and an online session on Yoga.

What is the one thing you like the most about your favorite teachers?

I like my favourite teacher’s behaviour. They help me learn new things everyday and clarify complex concepts by breaking them into smaller parts.

Teachers play the role of a guide and mentor in the students’ journey of learning. But sometimes, we find stories where students themselves discover their own ways of learning. Come to think of it, this is an achievement for both- the teacher and student, as teaching not only involves telling students what to do but also encouraging them to choose the path for themselves.
