The Necessity of Providing Sex Education
As we all are in an unprecedented situation imposed by COVID-19. Every individual and almost every aspect of the world has been impacted. Children to adult to old age people, all are sailing in the same boat in terms of facing uncertainties. As children are more sensitive and vulnerable and need our appropriate guidance, it is our responsibility as parents and caregivers to create a true picture of the uncertain world which is appropriate to be absorbed by the little minds.
None of us had visualized that the COVID situation will be extended over weeks and months. It leads to a momentary to a temporary change in our lifestyles. For the children, the sudden package of relief and holidays became a new way of living and learning. As all of us are keeping ourselves updated with the COVID related news regularly, it is also important to share the appropriate data and information with children, which does not lead to anxiety but helps them to stay healthy, practice appropriate hygiene routine and take the necessary measures to prevent themselves. Along with prevention from getting infected, it is also appropriate to guide the students around their holistic development. Initially, it came to the students as a bucket of excitement that they will be studying from home and will get access to the digital world but gradually, students are also realizing that it is not so easy to understand the concepts online and they miss being with their friends and to roam around in schools. As parents and caregivers, we need to create a positive picture of studying at home and make them jot down the benefits of being able to keep pace with their academics from home. It matters, how we talk to children and how we talk about the situation in front of them. Virtual teaching can be presented to them as a juicy candy with multiple flavors which is necessary to be grabbed.
As holistic development of the child is not just confined to academics but also caters to various aspects of her/his growth. As parents and caregivers we need to lend a hand of support and guide them to plan their day appropriately from dawn to dusk. This is the time of role reversals, we need to be a parent, a friend and a teacher. It is a good idea to play, dance and sing with them. It's good to have some evening activity time with kids and other family members to keep ourselves positive and have a relaxing end of the day after a hectic schedule of work and studies. It will give us more energy and positivity to plan our upcoming days.
As children are fond of magic and looking for miracles, we can be a magician in our children’s lives, feel open to say “I love you”, hug the child. Replace the words like No or can’t do it to “let’s do it”.
