Food is a vital part of a student's life. It's the energy source that students need to ingest all the nutrients. Not only does food serve as a healthy source of nutrients, but it also helps in the proper growth of the brain and physical strength. It's not a choice for students to eat well, it's a necessity!

To have a healthy diet, you need to ensure that your child consumes a wide range of nutritious foods from all food groups. Children can eat as a general guide:

  1. Lots of fruits and vegetables (more veg than fruit)
  2. Whole-grains (such as brown rice, whole grain bread, and whole-grain pasta)
  3. Beans and lentils
  4. Lean meats and seafood (especially fish)
  5. Seeds and nuts

The best approach to make eating fun is that it shouldn't be something you're forcing them to do or consume.

Here are 5 top tips to make eating a healthy diet fun!

  • Ensure that different colours of fruit and vegetables produce different combinations of nutrients. Think of your food as a rainbow of colors. Try putting as many different colors of food in your child's meal to ensure a wide range of nutrients. Think of the vibrant food-green, white, yellow, orange, blue, purple, red. Make this a game with your kids, can you think of a food that's colored like that? How many different colors will we have on the plate of your meal?
  • Get creative in the kitchen, make your food fun. Make your food more appealing by cutting the food into funny shapes and sizes, make the faces out of the food, and enjoy the food process. Let the children enjoy various flavours and textures of food.
  • Let them choose what they want to eat from a selected group of foods for their meal. Kids love to be involved in decision-making!
  • You can also get kids interested in food shopping. Discuss where the fruit and vegetables come from. Let your child make healthy food choices in the stores themselves.
  • Be a role model yourself. It's necessary to show an example as a parent. Eat all these nutritious foods on your own. Show your child how good they can be.

How can a student do well when he/she can't concentrate properly? It is very important to have a sound mind in a healthy body if you want to excel in your academic career. Certain nutrients and vitamins allow the brain to function more effectively. They not only improve brain functioning but also help in learning things faster than those that lack nutrients and vitamins.

Nutrition is essential at all ages. Children need the right nutrients to remain healthy and strong, and to grow strong and healthy. Children's nutrition will also help them to create a base for good eating habits and nutritional awareness that can be implemented by them throughout their life.
